     Experience the Project

Fire Safety  Compliance Course and Story Board

Tools used:

Articulate Storyline

Vyond

This project was designed using Vyond and Articulate Storyline.  The course demonstrates my understanding of how to use Articulate Storyline and its features including linking scenes, using slide layers, triggers, states, quizzes, adding and editing audio and video.

The project content revolves around five components that company employees need to be familiar with when it comes to workplace fire safety.  Before designing the eLearning experience, I did research regarding the topic to learn about what is considered most important when it comes to fire safety at work. Five major components surfaced: the five types of fires, different types of fire extinguishers used for certain types of fires, the PASS procedure for using a fire extinguisher, the RACE protocol for fire safety and general rules for avoiding fire hazards.

Next, I designed a storyboard for the project that outlined what text, audio and video or images would appear on screen as the course progressed.  I separated the main ideas into course components that users could visit one at a time. Each course component is followed with a knowledge check in preparation for a final assessment at the end of the course.  I used multiple choice, matching and drag and drop options for the knowledge checks.  Users always have the option to review before answering by clicking a button to review.

Completion of each course component leads users back to the main menu screen to proceed.  I included video using Vyond to demonstrate the RACE protocol (Rescue the patient, Activate the alarm, Contain the fire, Extinguish the fire) in order to add to the visual learner's experience.

The storyboard for the Fire Safety eLearning experience was developed in order to visually outline the organization of the content. The storyboard allows a client to see and understand what content the user is going to encounter, and in what order.  Developing the storyboard allows for making changes prior to the design stage of the process smoother.  It also provides a client with the information necessary to provide feedback before designing begins. This storyboard is ten pages long and contains details about all of the 27 slides that were eventually used in the project.
